EXTENDING YOUR REACH

Nuku Toi was set up to help innovators in New Zealand build bridgeheads overseas. We do this by supporting the undertaking of clinical trials, evaluating new product potential, and connecting innovators with investors and key players in export markets. One of our current priorities is launching a nutrition consumer insight hub in Singapore.

Our initial focus is on Southeast Asia, and we use Singapore as a base to explore opportunities in this huge and lucrative region. Singapore has a population of 6,000,000, including 1,100,000 expats. The ethnic breakdown is 76% Chinese, 11% Malay and 7.5% Indian, which provides an ideal test market for companies looking to get feedback on their product concepts or to trial different offerings.

Singapore has challenges that include an aging population and concern about nutritional deficiencies and lifestyle leading to conditions such as diabetes. Since the Covid pandemic, eating well to support health immunity is changing consumption behaviour in Singapore and Southeast Asia.

Singapore is a strategic location for trade and capital and often acts as a regional leader in the adoption of new products. For example, it was the first country in the world to accept lab-grown meat. The growing science, technology and capital pools in Singapore help attract capital from other Asian countries.
