Case Study:  Managing Diabetes with
the right food

One of the prototype foods developed by Nuku ki te Puku is a plant-based product that meets nutrient content regulations for New Zealand, South East Asia, and China for a high-protein, low-carbohydrate snack food with a low glycaemic index.

Indigenous ingredients grown and produced in New Zealand were tested in clinical trials held in New Zealand. The product was validated to demonstrate the potential for making health claims via the High-Value Nutrition science challenge.

This also provides an example of the connections and collaboration Nuku Toi can access to develop new products for export to Asia.

Nuku ki te Puku worked with Honey Lab and Anagenix to initiate clinical trials outside of New Zealand to demonstrate their products. Their products Livaux and BerryQi now have science-based claims that support skin and gut health respectively.
