Thai Festival 2026 Celebrates 70 Years of Friendship Between Thailand and New Zealand

The Royal Thai Embassy, together with the Thai Community in New Zealand, is bringing a vibrant celebration of Thai culture to Wellington with the Thai Festival 2026: “Sawasdee New Zealand, 70 Years of Friendship.”


This is being held on Saturday, 16 May 2026 at the iconic Michael Fowler Centre, the festival marks an important milestone — the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Thailand and New Zealand.


The event promises a colourful day filled with authentic Thai experiences for all ages. Visitors can enjoy traditional Thai cultural performances, including Khon mask dancing, authentic Thai cuisine, fruit and vegetable carving demonstrations, Muay Thai workshops, meditation sessions, and traditional Thai massage.


Special exhibitions celebrating Thailand’s rich cultural heritage and the Thai monarchy will also be featured, alongside displays of

royal-endorsed traditional Thai attire.


There will be plenty of interactive fun throughout the day, including a Thai Quiz with giveaways and a Lucky Draw featuring prizes such as hotel accommodation packages, Thai food vouchers, Thai massage experiences, and more. (See full details here)
